How did we help?

Moving an email archive is one thing. Moving 176 million emails while protecting 40TB of uncompressed data is quite another.

Savage needed to migrate its archive from Proofpoint to Mimecast safely and securely, while maintaining chain of custody throughout.

Using eMXport, we took care of the entire migration. No software for Savage to install. No migration servers to deploy or maintain. Just regular progress meetings while we got on with the complicated bit.

“The Possibility Partnership made a lengthy and time-consuming process feel seamless. We handed off access, stayed informed with regular check-ins, and they delivered everything we needed at the end – no burden on our team, no disruption to operations, and a complete chain of custody throughout. We were very satisfied and would partner with them again if the need arises.”

The challenge:
176 million emails. No pressure, then.

Founded in 1946, Savage provides transportation, logistics, materials handling and industrial services around the world. Today, more than 4,000 team members operate across over 200 locations.

Savage needed to move its existing Proofpoint email archive into Mimecast. And it wasn’t exactly a spring clean.

The archive contained 40TB of uncompressed data across 176 million emails. With that volume came an equally sizeable responsibility: every bit of data needed to be moved safely, securely and with chain of custody maintained throughout.

The solution:
Big migration, light workload

Savage didn’t need another major IT project eating up its team’s time. So we made sure this one didn’t.

Using our established eMXport service, The Possibility Partnership fully managed the migration from Proofpoint to Mimecast.

There was no software for Savage to install and no migration infrastructure for its IT team to deploy or maintain. We handled the technical work behind the scenes, with Savage’s IT and leadership teams joining regular meetings to review progress.

A huge technical undertaking for us. A refreshingly uneventful six months for them.

The result:
Millions moved, business as usual

176

Million emails migrated.

40TB

Uncompressed data.

0.012%

Error rate.

Approximately six months later, Savage’s email archive had been successfully migrated to Mimecast.

All 176 million emails and 40TB of uncompressed data were handled through the migration process, while chain of custody was maintained. And Savage’s day-to-day operations carried on without disruption.

The final error rate was just 0.01218%.

We also provided Savage with a Chain of Custody certificate and summary reports detailing what had been migrated. So their team didn’t simply have our word that the job was done. They had the paperwork to prove it.

“Moving 176 million emails and 40TB of uncompressed data is a technically huge undertaking. But that’s the point of eMXport: it shouldn’t feel huge for the customer. Savage could get on with running their business while we got on with the migration. Six months later, the data was where it needed to be, chain of custody was intact and their business hadn’t missed a beat. Beautifully uneventful.”

Migration without the migraine

Savage didn't need to install software, maintain migration servers or manage the process themselves. We took care of it.

Chain of custody, covered

Chain of custody was maintained throughout the migration, backed by a certificate and summary migration reporting.

Business as usual

Despite the scale of the project, Savage experienced no downtime or disruption to its day-to-day operations.
